How to get to Santa Teresa

  1. Fly into San Jose International Airport: The closest international airport to Santa Teresa is San Jose International Airport (SJO). From there, you can take a domestic flight to Tambor Airport (TMU), which is located about an hour's drive from Santa Teresa. Alternatively, you can take a shuttle or private transfer from the airport to Santa Teresa.
  2. Fly into Liberia International Airport: Another option is to fly into Liberia International Airport (LIR), which is located on the northwest coast of Costa Rica. From there, you can take a shuttle or private transfer to Santa Teresa, which is about a 4-hour drive away.
  3. Take a bus: If you prefer to travel by bus, you can take a bus from San Jose to Puntarenas, and then transfer to another bus that goes to Santa Teresa. The journey takes about 5-6 hours in total.
  4. Rent a car: Renting a car is a good option if you want to have the flexibility to explore the area at your own pace. There are several rental car agencies located at the airports and in major cities throughout Costa Rica. Just be aware that the roads in the area can be quite rough and may not be suitable for all vehicles.
  5. The cost effective option are shuttles, you also will need them if you want to move to Montezuma, Tambor Airport or leaving town as taxis are expensive
